Sarah Bertrand - 2009 Golden Opportunity Scholar

Sarah Bertrand PictureSarah Bertrand is a student in the School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences at Louisiana State University, and she is majoring in Plant and Soil Systems with minors in Environmental Management Systems and Biological Sciences. Sarah is a junior that plans to attend graduate school for plant breeding after graduation in May 2011. Her study is focused on crop management, and she has conducted independent research with sea oats, a coastal dune grass, under Dr. Carrie Knott of the LSU Coastal Plants Breeding Program. Her research has used molecular techniques to fingerprint the sea oats collection at LSU. 

Sarah has been an Agriculture College Council Representative, Secretary and Treasurer of the LSU Agronomy Club, and she presented research findings at the 2008 ASA-CSSA-SSA Joint Annual meetings. 
Sarah plans to attend graduate school for plant breeding, and her goal is to conduct research to create improved crop varieties at an academic institution or with a private industry.
